Mira Nair's closest friend and scriptwriter, Sooni Taraporevala is all set to make her directorial debut called Little Zizou. The film will be produced by TV 18, but the cast of the film is yet to be decided.

Sooni, who has written several of Mira's acclaimed films like Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala and the soon-to-be-released The Namesake says, "I will be starting the project soon, but I would not like to say anything before it begins as I'm a bit superstitious. The film is based on one of my favourite subjects- Mumbai and its madness. I'm going to look at it in a light-hearted way but it will take a couple of months before the film goes on the floors."

Sooni says direction was never on her mind, as she was perfectly content being a scriptwriter. "I never had grand ambitions of becoming a director as scriptwriting was very satisfying. However, while writing this script I realised I know this subject so well that it made sense for me to direct it myself. My friend Dinaz Jigdi and I formed a production company called Jigridost productions. Dinaz has also known the TV 18 people for sometime and they agreed to produce the film. Mira, who has been my best friend for 30 years now, will be the executive producer for the film."

Sandeep Bhargava of TV 18 tells us, "We liked the creative sense of both Sooni and Dinaz. The script is fantastic and suits our objective of making films for global audiences. However, since the casting is still under consideration, we don't know the exact budget yet."

Mira Nair says patronisingly, "Sooni and I have been creative partners for more than 25 years. She has a remarkable grasp of narrative, as is evinced in her stunning screenplays of Salaam Bombay!, Mississippi Masala, and now The Namesake — and an extraordinary visual eye, as can be seen in her book of photographs on the Parsi community. I am most excited about her talents coming together in her directorial debut of Little Zizou. I am proud to stand by her."
