Studio 18 which is synonymous with Film production and distribution is all set to begin their next film which will go on floors by the end of April. The film will be directed by debutant director Sooni Taraporevala who has written scripts for the Oscar nominated film Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala and the soon to be released The Namesake.

Sooni Taraporevala sounds excited about her debut venture, It's about mad Mumbai as seen through the eyes of a child. It's an ensemble of very unique characters and the story follows them on how they pursue their dreams. It will be shot around 35 locations all over Mumbai and will comprise of 12 characters and 54 speaking parts, so it's going to be a circus.

Ask her on who will star in the film and she reverts, Nothing from the cast to the title of the film has been finalized. We are still working on those details. I had a few names in my mind while scripting the film but we will make an official announcement in a couple of weeks.

Co-producing with Studio 18 will be Sooni herself along with her business partner Dina Stafford. The two have launched their own production house called "Jigri Dost Productions". It's a name that Mira Nair thought of many years ago during Salaam Bombay!, laughs Sooni. Mira Nair will be presenting the film. Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of Studio 18 says, When Studio 18 started out, we were very clear that we are going to be one of the top players in Bollywood but at the same time, we also wanted to make films for the global audience.

On asking him about his confidence in a new director he was quick to reply. We have complete confidence in her. When this project came forward I thought our objectives were met. When we have two people thinking on the same page it?s always easy to strike a deal.

Studio 18 has big plans for the future. ?We are doing a fair amount of films. We released films like Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd and 1971 in some territories. Next we are releasing Namastey London in the Delhi territory. So we plan to bring meaningful content to the audience worldwide.

Studio 18 is a complete 360 degree motion picture company. We have got interesting production acquisitions, domestic distribution offices in Mumbai and Delhi, International distribution in New York and London. We got our own Home Video label and should be starting with a music label as well, says Bhargava on a finishing note.
